Fallen Princesses by Dina Goldstein

Who didn’t idolize the Disney Princesses growing up? Their beautiful dresses, long, flowing hair, petite but feminine figures and overwhelmingly perfect lives. I mean, Belle had a talking wardrobe that picked her clothes out for her!! That is probably the most amazing thing ever.

But what happens after the wedding? What is “Happily Ever After” really like? Vancouver Photographer Dina Goldstein examines this in her darkly humorous portraits. I found these photos on Midge’s Mind and I just couldn’t resist sharing them with you all.

  1. Oh my gosh! I thought Annie Lebowitz did an amazing job with her celebrity portrayal of Disney characters for their ‘Year of a Million Dreams’ promotion, but these blow her shots out of the water! I love them and wish I could have all of them in prints to hang up around my house haha.

Wow, these are fabulous and so funny – should I be laughing? What does that say about me? Crud, I think I know the answer to that…

Hon, I am dead serious – I am soo letting you know when I’m in town. You best take the day off…or at least a super long lunch :)

Always happy to make you laugh :)

oh my goodness i love it! and i love that vic dressed up as snow white last year for halloween. that picture completely represents her unhappily ever after. ha!

  4. These are hilarious. Probably so true. I think so many people have an idea of a fairy tale. They are then stunned by what reality is like.

  5. Ooh I remember seeing these a while back! I loved the Jasmine one the best for some odd reason.

  6. so true. enough said. if you’ve ever been married… you’d understand, i’m sure. lol.

you can either choose to be Snow White, chuckin the kids around on your hip… while your hubby doesn’t do anything! or you can pump yourself up with a little female Popeye and lay down the iron fist. just b/c you’re a housewife/stay-at-home mommy, doesn’t mean you’re a doormat :) p.s. Spinach is actually REALLY good for you *wink* haha

  7. amazzzing!

  15. Clare! Great minds think alike because I blogged about these photos too, back in August, check it out: http://oceandreams4sierra.blogspot.com/2009/07/fallen-princesses.html

I think these photos are beautiful because life is not always a fairytale and I think women (especially teens) need to know this so they can prepare themselves and not get used or abused by people who are out there to hurt. Not saying that goodness is not there, me of all people always looks to the good, but these photos are just so realistic and I love that.

  16. my fav is the jasmine one for sure! love love love. so hilarious. and the first one of cinderella is really cute. too bad they didn’t have ariel.

  17. What a great idea! Love it. It is so creative. I have never seen something like this. Great find!
