Love or Fug? Short Wedding Dresses

There seems to be a rapid movement towards the more casual bride. A movement away from huge, intricate wedding gowns to simpler, more flowy, even shorter dresses. Well I must say that I am extremely happy that women are no longer wearing huge, frilly, big shouldered, cupcake dresses…. but I still haven’t decided how I feel about short wedding dresses.

On one hand, I think a bride should wear whatever makes her feel happy and beautiful on her big day. On the other hand, I can’t help but think that on one of happiest days of your life, why not wear a long gown that will make you feel like a princess?

So what do you think? Would you ever wear a short wedding gown?

  1. wouldn’t wear a short wedding dress. but definitely agree to each their own and it’s nice that there are a variety of different types of dresses out there. i do like the first one though… maybe if you got married outside on the beach? don’t think it would be nice for a church wedding though. xx

  2. I adore the first shot, it is still very princess-y. the second looks more like something you would wear to the races.

I am not sure of the kind of wedding dress I would like…but it will be something I love, regardless of length.

  3. Love this trend!
That first dress is especially gorgeous!

  4. I do think it’s wonderful that brides can venture from the well-worn and traditional paths, but I agree that there are very few opportunities to wear fairy/princess/mermaid type dresses – it seems a shame to pass up a long wedding dress!

  5. I agree with Emma. There are so few opportunities for most people to wear full length gowns, so one should take them as they come. But the second one would be perfect for an older bride or a second marriage.

Ive always thought that bridesmaids should wear short dresses. Perhaps after the formal ceremony, the bride can change into a short dress (if she can afford to do purchase two dresses for her big day!) I think the short dress leans slightly to High school Formal. But, whatever makes the bride feel elegant is what she should wear!

  7. I’m in the same boat as you. I’m not a huge fan of super fussy or really huge dresses myself, so it’s nice to see that going with something a little more flowy, eclectic and romantic is being more ‘accepted’ for wedding attire. I’m not personally fond of short wedding dresses (I would never do it), but it others want it for their wedding, it’s their day, so it’s their choice. :)

  8. I like the first dress but I am a traditional sort of gal.

  9. I think the trend is adorable – but on my wedding, which will be years and years away, I envision myself wearing a long gown :)

  10. I would totally wear a short, wedding dress. Not only do I believe a woman should wear whatever she wants on her wedding day (even if it means not wearing white), I also believe that past a certain age, women should let go of the princess thing. But that’s just my opinion. :-)

  11. I rather go for the traditional dress. The first dress length doesn´t work for me. I rather have the sencond one length. But the best, the long dress.

  12. Maybe I’m not such a romantic, but the idea that you could wear your wedding dress later again (like these) really appeals to me.

  13. I think it depends on the venue and season… the first one is gorgeous here!

  14. hm. I always imagined a long dress on the beach. short dresses just aren’t as formal. but they’re ok i guess. i don’t know.

To each {bride} her own. But I know I want an elegant dress for mine!

  16. I would prefer a short dress (the first one pictured here would be quite nice). I find that long dresses with trains oftentimes make one look like a cupcake. I absolutely adore eating cupcakes; but I’m not too crazy about looking like one. Therefore, a short dress is what I would want to be married in!! :)

  17. I think it depends on the weeding…for example, when I got married my dress wasn’t long. I got married in a very casual ceremony at my own mother’s garden. So, at the time, I opted for something more simple….I think, in that cases, it is acceptable…

  18. I quite like them. They still look gorgeous and elegant enough to make you feel special on your wedding day, and I guess they would be so much easier to handle.

  19. Long all the way!! The short ones are nice, but there’s something about a big, princess like gown that sounds so attractive for a wedding =)

These dresses are pretty but I still prefer longer numbers. Seriously- when are you going to get to wear a long white shimmering gown again??

  21. I like the first one but highly dislike the second. Hmm, I like the fact that you wouldn’t tripping all over it at your wedding reception, but…at the same time longer wedding gowns are so elegant.
