Don’t just ‘Put A Blazer On It’

Dressing for a corporate setting can be incredibly difficult. Especially if your work is really conservative and you feel limited to suits *shudder*. I feel lucky because even when I worked in a corporate setting it was never so stuffy that I had to completely compromise my personal style. However, I did fall into fashion ruts a lot.

My solution was to wear a black dress with a blazer and heels. That got boring and repetitive really quickly. It also felt like I wasn’t wearing a lot of my clothes — and I have a pretty strict policy about not letting perfectly good clothes hang in your closet unworn.

So I tested putting shirts under my LBDs. I was really happy with the results. I felt like a button down under a dress was a great way to jazz up my black dresses. This look is also a fresher take on the classic button-down-under-sweater look. I also thought it made my look a bit more updated overall.

So, the next time you feel like just ‘putting a blazer on it’, try the shirt-under-dress trick instead.

Yesss! I have a cute black Ann Taylor dress that I can slip a nice dress shirt under. It’s a definite fall classic!. It makes me wish I would have bought the same dress in different colors!
