Keeping it casual on Wall Street

black top, blue jeansI found myself way far away from my neighborhood this past week. In these very pictures I am standing in the heart of the financial district. So, despite my casual attire, I was basically surrounded by riches. Yay, accidental tourist! And yes, traveling from Harlem to Wall Street does count as legitimate travel.

Also, I just had  to include the photo below because it looks like I am confidently strutting into New York Sports Club — but we all know that’s a laugh.

This Chambray is Different.

pink and chambray

Hey Guys! I am BACK — with a new (and entirely different) chambray shirt! This is my other chambray. The new chambray is clearly lighter. Well, at least I think it is. Either way, please tell my husband who is convinced that I bought the same shirt twice. This is a summer chambray. Right?? Anyone?

The fair weather blogger

winter is terribleWell you guys, despite the fact that it is day two of Spring, I have decided to put the blog on a brief hiatus until the weather gets warmer.

Let me stress brief again with italics — because seriously, it will be like a week (maybe two tops). I just need to thaw out a bit.

I made this decision for two major reasons:

1. You have seen all my Fall/Winter looks (multiple times) and they are beginning to bore ME — so I know they aren’t doing anything for y’all anymore. I would love to be able to rework my cold weather items for Spring, but it just isn’t warm enough for me to do so yet. Tragedy.

2. Taking photos in the freezing cold just isn’t fun anymore. This blog’s primary goal is to make me happy — not to give me a cold. When I find myself dreading the idea of shivering through another photo shoot, I know it is time to take a weather-induced vacation.

But rest assured that I WILL be back. I am hoping April brings us some sunshine and fun shooting days. What’s even more exciting is that I will be back with a plethora of chambray new(ish) looks.

Middi Swish

plaid and mirrored glassesI am all about the middi skirt trend for the Spring/Summer. It is the perfect blend of the maxi skirt, which are either not long enough or super long and drag along and pavement attracting god knows what, and the mini skirt which is often tough to move in and remain modest.

Middis for the win!

It’s not Spring

black dressMarch has always been my least favorite month– mostly because March is such a little trickster. Usually, “the first day of Spring” is in March. In your mind you may think — oh, warm weather will start in March! This idea is 100% false. March goes in like a lion and out like one too. Here in the city, it has snowed twice and remained a solid 46 degrees. Blergh.

This black dress I am wearing has been sitting, long forgotten, in my closet. I don’t like to wear it because it is so unforgiving — and almost impossible to get on and off. This dress is the only bodycon dress in the history of the world that has absolutely zero stretch or give and one tiny zipper along the side to “help” you get it on and off. Invariably, I get the dress halfway on or halfway off and it gets completely stuck around my shoulders or lady lumps and I have to call in for assistance.

As long as I don’t eat anything all day but water and the souls of small children, and have an assistant to get me in and out of this dress, it is actually pretty cute. I especially love the leather detailing around the collar.

Wafels and Dinges

wafels and dingesYou guys! Guess what?? It was moderately warm out this past weekend! The weather was wonderful compared to this episode that happened earlier in the week. To celebrate, I had to hit up my favorite food truck, Wafels and Dinges – the most delicious food truck in ALL the city. The scrumptious, hot waffles topped with powdered sugar (or in the case of my husband, ice cream and chocolate) are pure happiness in my mouth.

I am actually pretty picky about food. I generally like for all food to be beautifully presented, fully identifiable, and full of carbs (this is why I usually shy away from casseroles or mayo-based “salads” at all costs). But when it comes to street food, I tend to throw caution to the wind and fully indulge myself. I once bought two churros out of a plastic bin from a woman who didn’t speak English in the subway tunnel in Port Authority. The churros were delicious. No, I did not die.

But anyway, all of this is to say. Try Wafels and Dinges. You won’t be disappointed.

Oh, and I also wore this.

Mintspiration

s--Arizona-Muse-Vogue-UK-February-12-13140-1The color of Spring/Summer 2013 is MINT. Seriously, this color is everywhere. I feel like I might get tarred and feathered if I don’t wear mint this Spring. I am still trying to decide on the perfect mint piece. Since the color is so trendy, I only want one or two (inexpensive) pieces. The dilemma is ongoing — do I want mints pants? A mint skirt? A cute mint shirt? Do I want just a hint of mint? Like a belt or something??  There are so many mint decisions to make! I wanna be minty fresh, but I dunno what to get. GET IT?! Minty fresh??? Har Har Har.

Do you have anything mint for Spring? Here’s some mintspiration to get you in the mood for mint.

Reality Suit

coatThe truth of the matter is – IT IS FREEZING OUTSIDE! I cannot stress this enough. For those of you that dream of one day moving to NYC and being an in-real-life Carrie Bradshaw, strongly consider the detrimental effects a Manhattan winter can have on your soul.

Then move to Florida.

Seriously, you guys. It is so cold. Since indoor photos just aren’t ever up to snuff, shooting outside is really our only option. I wanted to put together a quick post full this week’s “test photos”. Matt takes these to test the light and make sure the camera settings are good before I am forced to shed my layers and “smize” As you can see, my coat is part of every single winter outfit post, whether it’s photographed or not. I don’t want you all to get the wrong idea and think I am immune to the elements or that the weather in the Concrete Jungle is warmer than your previously thought.

Sweater Pups

scottie dogs and jeansI should make it clear that I don’t love scottie dogs as much as my blog might make it seem. I mean, I love all dogs — dogs are the best. I seriously have no idea why cats are having such a moment right now, especially when dogs are clearly the superior animal.

But anyway, there aren’t a lot of sweaters with other breeds of dogs on them. So that is why I have so many scottie dog sweaters. Just thought you all should know. The End.

Hooray Neon!

neon and chevronI don’t really have anything to say about this look. Other than the fact that the shoes I am wearing were/are too big. So I was awkwardly hobbling around for the entire shoot. Not sure why I bought too big shoes, but I guess you live and learn.

Ah, shopping. So hard.
