My newest obsession? Neon. This love started about a month ago and now I am dying to get my hands on some perfect neon. I think it is shockingly flattering when styled correctly. I like it when girls go beyond the traditional neon shoe and wear a full-on neon dress. ADORBS.

So you may remember how I wanted to insert more color into my wardrobe in 2012. I bought this dress from H&M that is perfect for work or to go out. I am really excited for Spring when I can wear it without the jacket. The dress has such a great shape! I will be sure to blog it, in full, once the weather gets warmer and I can really show it off. Until then, here’s a little preview of my new green dress.

Top Ten Most Fashionable Leading Ladies

In addition to blogging, my other hobby is watching movies. Not those crappy movies adapted from ridiculous Nicholas Sparks “novels”, though. Good movies with fully fleshed out characters and beautiful cinematography. The leading lady can make or break a movie (we have all seen the disaster that is Twilight, so the importance of a competent leading lady cannot be disputed.)

Me and my friend Victoria (remember her from this post?) spent some time determining who the most fashionable leading ladies of all time were. This was a incredibly hard list to generate, but I think we came up with some good picks.

#10 Rose Byrne “Helen Harris” in Bridesmaids:

Quite possible the most passive aggressively horrible person in the movie, you can’t deny that she is definitely the best dressed. From that stunning blowout to her expertly tailored country club garb, Miss Harris is never caught looking “undone”.

#9 Anne Hathaway “Andy Sachs” in The Devil Wears Prada:

This one is pretty obvious. You can’t work at Vogue AND have a last name like “Sachs” and not be impeccably dressed. Granted, homegirl got off to a rocky start — but I hear that fashion closet over at Conde Nast can turn anyone into a couture queen.

#8 Vivien Leigh “Scarlett O’Hara” in Gone with the Wind:

Scarlett O’Hara taught me that it was okay to be self centered and horrible as long as I look bangin’ in a hoop skirt and could adequately sew an entire gown with nothing but curtains, air, and a tiny bit of hope. Fiddle dee dee, y’all!

#7 Julia Roberts “Vivian Ward” in Pretty Woman:

Perhaps the best dressed and most distinguishably named prostitute in history, Vivian Ward made women and girls across the country unanimously hate pretentious women who work in shops. Prostitutes need clothes too, people — or maybe they don’t. I don’t know. Luckily, our favorite prostie got those shop workers good when she went back to store dressed to the nines and was moderately rude to them. Boo ya!

#6 Kirsten Dunst “Marie Antoinette” in Marie Antoinette:

Ah, to be a young princess straight chillen with friends all day and looking fabulous in the Palace of Versailles. Terrible how she got beheaded — but all good things must come to an end *sigh*.

#5 Gwyneth Paltrow “Margot Tenenbaum” in The Royal Tenenbaums:

I am going to be honest, I don’t remember specifics from The Royal Tenenbaums but I do remember Gwen. The eye liner, the bob, that fur coat she always wore. So much win.

#4 Tippi Hedren “Melanie Daniels” in The Birds:

So blonde. So Hitchcock. Melanie’s perfect suits and sky-high bouffant almost distracted me from a lifetime of fearing mass bird revolts.

#3 Alicia Silverstone ‘Cher Horowitz” in Clueless:

I am a 90′s kid. Cher essentially shaped my entire life. I vividly remember absentmindedly wiping drool off my chin as I watched Cher use a computer (that was in her room!) to pick from the endless supply of clothes in her closet and find the perfect outfit. The computer program could tell the difference between clothes that matched and clothes that didn’t. Cher was not only a fashion guru she was a technically savvy fashion guru *swoon*.

#2 Marilyn Monroe “Sugar Kane Kowalczyk” in Some Like It Hot:

If you can watch this movie and resist the uncontrollable urge to want to magically become Miss Sugar Kane Kawalcyk, I am going to assume you have no soul.

#1 Audrey Hepburn “Holly Golightly” in Breakfast at Tiffany’s:

Holly’s black outfit is iconic. You have probably dressed up at Miss Golightly for Halloween or used her image on a sorority recruitment shirt (or maybe that last one was just me). Either way, every girl wants to live an uber chic Breakfast at Tiffany’s life. But we are content living vicariously through Holly Golightly.

Golden Globe Recap

I only have one thing to comment on regarding the Golden Globes (Mostly because I didn’t watch them. Sorry.)

So this chic, called Shailene Woodley, gave the fashion industry a collective heart attack when she showed up at a Golden Globes after party wearing those fancy-pants-toe-shoes that are usually reserved for running. But Shailene doesn’t care about what people think! She only cares about the health of her feet, legs and back and the ability to make a fast getaway. So Shailene wore her toe shoes with a gown (HOLY shoot!).

Everyone was all like, “Omgah, I can’t believe she did that!! She is a HORRIBLE human!!” But I was like, I love this girl. She is a badass and I would like to shake her hand. Here is why:

It isn’t like she wore her toe shoes for the ENTIRE night. She wore her heels to the important event. Then she slipped into the sensible shoes she stashed in her purse for the after party — and don’t try to pretend you don’t change into flats for after parties, too, girrrrl.
Sure, the toe shoes might be ugly. But they aren’t any uglier than these. And people went gaga (no pun intended) over these ridiculous horse shoes.
That after party carpet isn’t even red. It is blue! So, in my opinion, all bets are off. You can wear whatever shoes you want on a blue carpet.
She helps me feel better about myself for ALWAYS changing into flats (even before I leave my house). Heels are the devil’s torture ramps, after all. So if I can avoid wearing them, I will.

The easiest way to get beach waves — with ZERO heat

Believe it or not, I got this style using zero heat. As a girl with relaxed hair (i.e. chemically straightened hair), I have to take it easy with heat styles or else my hair will end up dry and brittle. I started using a technique called “bantu knotting” to curl my hair without heat. The best part is, it is ridiculously easy. Here’s how its done.

Start by twisting sections of your hair. Make the sections larger or smaller depending on how tight you want your curls (and also depending on how long you want the curls to last. Larger twists don’t last very long).

Twist your hair into a little bun like this, then pin it with a bobby pin so that it will stay.

Then make little knots all over your head. I like to make tighter knots around my face and looser ones at the back of my head. I usually sleep with my hair like this.

Voila! Take the knots out in the morning and gently finger comb them to get the style you like. I use a bit of Jane Carter Solution Nourish and Shine for added shine.

Easy peasy!

My Fair Lady is one of my favorite movies. Mostly because I love Audrey Hepburn and musicals but also because the clothes are, like, the best. So, you can imagine my excitement when I found this editorial of Audrey wearing some of her My Fair Lady costumes.

I’m Sketchy

So, I was waiting on the subway platform with a friend. We were talking and gossiping and then the train came. As we were engulfed in a sea of people boarding the L train, a man handed me a piece of paper. He said, “I drew a picture of you” and I was all like, “Thank you!”.

Below is my drawing:

Awesome, right?! How cool of him to make me a sketch. There is even another person’s face in my hair!
