Also, I just wanted to let y’all know that I will be blogging a bit less than usual this week because I am getting married on Saturday. THEN, I won’t blog at all next week (unless I do — I might sneak a blog post or two in on my honeymoon because I honestly love blogging that much. Seriously.)

p.s. any more votes on wedding nail colors? I still haven’t decided yet. I did decided that I am getting a gel manicure, though. Anyone have a favorite gel color???

How are you honoring Memorial Day?

Unfortunately, there will be no red, white and blue themed cookouts for me as I will be spending the day packing a honeymoon bag (I am a notoriously inefficient packer, so yes, it will take the whole day). There’s always next year, though!

But now I also love Don’s new wife, Megan. She is just so pretty with her Zou Bisou Bisou (that singing scene was, quite possibly, the best tv show scenes of the year).

I wanted to give you a super exciting update about what I have been up to — but now that I look back at the pictures, I realized they are mostly just photos of food.

But I am sharing them anyway.

I went to The Hamptons (Montauk) for the first time ever this weekend. It was a blast! I also learned a few things:

1. The Hamptons are not in New Jersey — they are on Long Island (who knew??)
2. Don’t go to Montauk during the Montauk Music Festival. There are way too many subpar singers with acoustic guitars per square mile
3. Breakfast food in The Hamptons is second to none.
4. From what I saw, The Hamptons are drop dead gorgeous — but they don’t compare to the Outer Banks. All my Southern ladies say, “yay!”

Also, you might be wondering why this picture of a flower shop represents The Hamptons. Wellll, I kind of forgot to take a photo of the water. My bad — next time.

This dog came to my office and it was basically the greatest day ever. I think all offices should allow dogs at work. Not cats, though. Cats are known to lower company moral. True story, y’all.

One of my favorite things in the world is bread. I consider myself a bit of a bread connoisseur, actually. One of my favorite types of bread is the garlic knot. My fiance brought me an entire bowl of them to eat all by myself. He is the greatest.

One of the stylists at work sent me these flowers as a thank you! They made my office smell like paradise and happiness.

Here is a photo of my block in the rain. You know how in the tropics there is a rainy season and every day it rains and it is the worst thing ever? Well that happens in New York, too. It rains in this city, like, every day in the Spring. The good news is that I now have an excuse to wear my rad rain boots every day. The bad news is that rain in NYC is really foul and it creates these things called “sludge puddles”. These puddles are full of toxic waste and they never ever dry up — even in July when it is about 200 degrees in Manhattan. One time, I accidentally stepped in a sludge puddle. Which means my feet may or may not have radiation poisoning.

I made this. So proud.

♥ Take the subway: I know it looks scary and intimidating and you may think that going down in the subway will lead to your violent and tragic demise. It won’t. Yes, you will annoy about ten people when you don’t understand how to acquire and use your metrocard but that is water under the bridge. Get on the subway and take it somewhere. Anywhere. The subway will ensure that you don’t spend your entire trip to NYC essentially circling the Times Square area in a smelly cab.

♥ Go to Times Square either really early or really late: Some jaded poo-poo pants might try and tell you that Times Square is for chumps. Well, you wouldn’t go to Paris and not see Versailles, so why come to New York and not see Times Square? It is cool there — not as cool as Versailles but whatever. You will never, ever, ever in your whole life see more oversized ads in one place. Seriously the sheer amount of advertising in one city block will blow your mind. But you have to be smart about Times Square. You only need to see it once and you need to see it at the right time. Here’s a secret to success. Go to Times Square either SUPER early (like 7am) or super late (like 1am after drinks). A miracle occurs then. Times Square is empty — but all the lights are on so it is still cool. Don’t ever, under any circumstances, go to Times Square during the day. Unless you don’t like happiness.

♥ Eat below 14th street: It may sound snobby but if you only have a few days to spend in the city — eat at good places. All the good places are downtown. Get on the subway and go down there. That isn’t to say that there are no good places to eat above 14th Street. For example, Red Rooster in Harlem where I live is lovely. But the number  of great places per city block downtown is remarkable. You stand a better chance of eating somewhere great if you stay down there.

♥ Visit a park that isn’t Central Park: Central Park is so gorgeous and so big. But other parks are pretty rad, too. Like Prospect Park in Brooklyn. That is a lovely park and you can go there and see real hipsters and take photos of them (hipsters love to have their photo taken by a stranger).

♥ Come back: Don’t try to cram New York into a weekend or even a week long trip. Pick one or two super touristy things to do (like the Statue of Liberty or Top of the Rock) and spend the rest of your time exploring. Just put on those walking flats from J. Crew and walk. Walk for miles. Walk till your feet burn. Then stop  on a block that appeals to you and go to whatever cafe is the closest. You will feel adventurous and alive — and you will experience something truly memorable.

p.s. Don’t forget to bring money and lots of it. This city is a cruel mistress and she will make you broke as a joke if you aren’t careful.

ESPECIALLY my mother who is the greatest. She is one of those moms who is kind and nurturing but doesn’t smother or pry — and she didn’t do my laundry until I was 20 or other such nonsense. She molded me to be a strong, independent woman, y’all! She also still drives me to — and picks me up from — all of my appointments and social occasions when I am home since I have no car (#nycproblems).

Instead of thinking about whether or not I will make a good wife to my future husband or whether we can build a happy, financially stable, trusting, lasting, sitcom-perfect future together…

I am thinking and worrying obsessively about the color I will paint my nails for the wedding.

Seriously.

This is a GREAT concern of mine. I must find the perfect nude-rosy-pale-pink.

I was thinking I would wear my go-to, Essie’s Sugar Daddy. But now I feel like that might be too pale. Then I was thinking about Essie’s Fiji, but that might be too pink.
