Rehearsal Dinner Dress

Thanks for the rehearsal dinner dress comments (I even got TWO e-mails about the dress. Which makes me automatically famous)! The common theme among these notes was that people wanted to see me in the dress.

Well, ladies and gents — you. are. in. luck! Here, on my trusty i-Phone, is a photo of me in this very dress (after all, you already saw the shoes – why not see the whole look!).

Hang on

I need to e-mail to myself.

Viola!

Now, I should say that when this dress arrived in the mail it did NOT look like this. I should have taken a “before” photo so you could see the transformation — but I didn’t. My bad.

What I am trying to say is, there is always an element of surprise involved when you order vintage online.

For example, this dress came down to my lower shins and the top was gigantic when it arrived. The hemlines were definitely dated. But dated 80′s hemlines are nothing a tailor can’t fix. My genius tailor brought the hemline up about five inches and took in the top.

The results are great. I will definitely wear this dress again after the rehearsal. I would wear it before  the rehearsal if I could. But I am worried I will spill on it and have to show up to my rehearsal with a gigantic stain on my dress.

What do you think of this dress?

Etsy Favorites

Etsy is THE best. Recently, I have started doing a lot more shopping on the site, so I wanted to share some of my very favorite stores.

Necessity is the Mother: I have the cutest yellow skirt from this shop that I absolutely love. The designer of these stunning jumpers, skirts, and dresses makes everything by hand and, if my skirt is any indication, everything is incredibly well made.

Delia Langan: One of my absolute favorite Etsy stores is Delia Langan. Delia handcrafts the most beautiful and dainty jewelry. I am obsessed with my I’m Hammered necklace. I never take it off.  Delia uses precious metals and semi precious stones to make her incredible creations.

Little Annie Vintage: The photo above is actually my rehearsal dinner dress. It is an adorable vintage 80′s dress that I love! Also, this shop has much more affordable vintage options compared to other vintage shops on Etsy. (p.s. the owner of this shop is currently on vacation. She will be back soon, though).

Earrings Nation: Looking for fancy costume/special occasion jewelry for cheap? Look no further than Earrings Nation. This shop has an endless supply of adorable earrings. You are guaranteed to find something you love.

What are YOUR favorite Etsy shops??

Who Watched Mad Men?

And now we all can’t stop singing Zou Bisou Bisou – amiright?! It took me a while to stop being mortified about that little dance, though. When Megan first started busting her French moves I was all like, “no, no, no, please, stop, no.” Then I decided that I loved Megan’s sexy birthday dance routine. I  can only hope that one day I am at a party with all of my coworkers and someone’s spouse, who also happens to be my fellow co-worker, does a completely inappropriate sexy dance routine in front of all of us. That would make my life.

Here’s to you, Betty 2.0 Megan. You da best in your little black dress.

What did you think of the premier?

Stars Dressed As Audrey Hepburn

Ah, this iconic image. Every girl loves this image. There are so many jewels, Audrey looks so strong and content, she is somking a cigarette out of one of those long cigarette things (Now I hate smoking — it is foul. But those long smoking things are really chic), and Audrey is at brunch. Who doesn’t like brunch?

Anyway, you know who loves this image more than anyone? Celebrities. And because celebs are rich and bored, they hire a whole team of people to come help them recreate this iconic image and publish it all over the world.  They wake up in their chateau, shove a plethora of prescription pills down their throats and are all like, “Sigh, what am I going to do before I go out and get photographed at a trendy LA night club? Oh, I know! I am going to dress up as Audrey Hepburn. She was classy, just like me!”

Seriously, celebs love this image. Check it out:

Natalie Portman

Billionaire Holly Valance

See? They are obsessed.

Fantasy Faceoff!!

Welcome to my dorkiest post EVERRRR!

I have noticed a trend lately. Every two to three years an extraordinary woman comes along and writes a series of books that changes the landscape of America. Meaning, everyone starts reading when before they were all sitting around being fat and watching The Bachelor. THEN, those books get turned into epic movies that everyone gets to go see at the theater so they can resume being carb lovers. Let’s be honest, the $135 movie theater popcorn is truly irresistible (truly — it is freaking delicious).

I find this INCREDIBLY exciting because my three favorite things (in order) are books, movies and eating things that are bad for me (Yea, I know, fashion isn’t on this list. Weird.)

So ANYWAY America is obsessed with The Hunger Games. A mediocre book series about killing your friends. Before that, America was obsessed with Twilight, a horrible book series (and movie series) about a tragic autistic girl, her sparkly boyfriend and their shirtless, gay best friend. Before that America was obsessed with Harry Potter, an extraordinary book series (and movie sensation) about a trio of wizards who battle the Dark Lord (so much win).

So even though I think Harry Potter is (by far) the best of all of these fantasy series, I decided I would rank them  from 1 to 10 and see what my honest, objective opinion reveals in the end! Let’s gooooo!

The Protagonist

Katniss Everdeen: Gets automatic points for making a moderately lame pastime, archery, seem really cool. She is also independent and kills people without getting weird and girly about it. All of this changes in book three, though, when she starts sucking. Now, about the movie. I was pretty annoyed when they tapped Jennifer Lawrence for this part. Then I remembered her role in Winter’s Bone. Enough said.

Points (out of ten): 6

Harry Potter: Being a wizard is super awesome, attending (literally) the coolest school in the universe is even awesomer. Being perpetually hunted by a crazy snake man for your entire life is the awesomest. However, Harry can get pretty angsty and annoying. Am I right, y’all? It was like, one second we were all happy and playing Quidditch, then the next we were sulking off by the Womping Willow.

Points: 8

Bella Swan: I have to give Hollywood credit for taking the most flat, vapid, insipid, and silly character and finding the most emotionally challenged and sullen actress to pay her. Bella Swan is the worst.

Points: 1 (a pity point)

The Two Comrades

Gale and Peeta: “Oh great, another lame love triangle,” says everyone in the universe. But somehow, these two make it work. They are still both kind of pathetic though. And the casting — Miley Cyrus’ boyfriend and a hobbit. For real? No thanks.

Points: 4

Ron and Hermione: Aren’t these two the best? Talk about the best best friends in the world. Always down for whatever and hilarious and willing to do your homework. Seriously? Is there any contest? These are the two best comrades ever. Except that Ron can be sort of stupid and Hermione can be a total boss (which is why we love her so it really isn’t that bad).

Points: 9

Edward and Jacob: You may remember that we were first introduced to Edward Cullen in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire where he played a lovable Hufflepuff. Then things went terribly, terribly wrong and he wound up in Twilight where he immediately became awful. Despite Ed’s wretchedness, Jake really does make the entire Twilight series for being an oversized, poorly executed CGI dog. So he gets points.

Points: 5

The Villain

President Snow: Dear me! This man is all kinds of scary and vindictive. I hated him. He is the best villain ever! I loved his story line, too. Also, President Snow made book three not suck so badly So that right there is an amazing accomplishment.

Points: 9

Lord Voldemort: For you people who think Harry Potter is just for kids, answer me this: Would you want to put a poster of this face in your child’s bedroom? I didn’t think so. Voledmort is pretty awful because he is a stone-faced killer, y’all! Voldie does some serious damage to the cast of Harry Potter, too. He doesn’t play.

Points: 9

The Volturi: Remember these losers? Yea, I don’t either.

Points: 1 (another pity point)

So, let’s see how everyone faired (I am bad at math, so beware)

Hunger Games: 19

Harry Potter: 26

Twilight: 7

Harry Wins!!! (of course)

What’s Your “Going Out” Style?

This New Year’s Eve, I decided I wanted to dress sexy because we were going to a club to celebrate the birth of 2012. I NEVER, ever go to clubs. This was a big opportunity for me to get all vamped up and go out and dance.

So, I put on my frothy white mini-dress, smoked out my eyes, and curled my hair. I was ready to roll, y’all! I was smoking hot! Then I stood before the mirror, expecting a stunning vixen to be staring back at me. Instead, the weather woman from WBG-TV was standing there, blocking my view of the sexy chick that was supposed to be there.

Yes, people! Instead of looking sexy, I seriously looked like a weather woman. Like I always do. So I decided, perhaps “sexy” isn’t my vibe. I am girly. So I should just stick to what works.

What about you? What is your “going out” style? Here are two lace dresses to help you decide.

Are you Sexy?

Or are you Girly?

I also just realized the “sexy” photo I picked isn’t even really that sexy. Perhaps I not sure what sexy is??
