Little Black Dress and a Pickup Truck

little black dress

Husband and I are here in sunny Virginia for Christmas. I must say that Virginia is quite a photogenic state. This pickup is amazing, right? I spotted it as soon as we arrived at my parent’s home and I knew I had to take photos with it. Luckily, I had this necklace to match it.

Also, how was everyone’s Christmas?

I made it to Virginia!

So my mother (who is a saint), drove from Virginia to NYC to collect Matt, myself, and all of our stuff THEN she drove us all the way back to Virginia. Due to her amazing efforts we have finally made it to my home state! Check out our stellar view.

Oh em gee, right?

Also, I just wanted to let y’all know that I will be blogging a bit less than usual this week because I am getting married on Saturday. THEN, I won’t blog at all next week (unless I do — I might sneak a blog post or two in on my honeymoon because I honestly love blogging that much. Seriously.)

p.s. any more votes on wedding nail colors? I still haven’t decided yet. I did decided that I am getting a gel manicure, though. Anyone have a favorite gel color???

A Very Virginia Vacation

I am back, y’all! I had a lovely holiday, but I missed all of you so very much. It feels fantastic to be blogging again.

I spent my Christmas and New Year’s in Virginia with my family. It was a grand time. I compiled a photo diary of the last few weeks below.

Preptastic

Ralph Lauren made the prep chic, timeless, and sophisticated. Shows like Gossip Girl made the prep cool, hip and fun. While certain styles come and go, preppy-chic has always remained. Preppy is a particularly interesting fashion genre because it is always reinventing itself. Preppy clothes are always on-hand when the latest fad falls flat. After all, you can never go wrong with a crisp, cotton Oxford shirt.

The preppy look is always in style. So in these tough financial times, invest in some sleek preppy gear. You can still wear it next season. While your neighbor is tossing those fabulous gladiator sandals of summers-gone-by… you can stand proud in your timeless (and cute) boat shoes.

She wears hardly any makeup, her simplistically styled hair is pulled back with an embellished headband. The exquisite tailoring on her subtly colorful clothes do the talking for her.

She wears a loud bikini you can spot anywhere on the beach, and lugs a tote bag big enough to fit a yummy lunch. She never, ever forgets to slather on the SPF before she sits back, relaxes and enjoys the waves!

The preppy princess would never settle for the little black dress. While sipping a mint julep and nibbling on Virginia peanuts, this princess knows how to stand out in a crowd.

Prep School Graduation

This Friday, my sister graduated from Foxcroft School an all-girls boarding school in Middleburg, Va. Now, I am very familiar with prep-school graduations as I used to live at Woodberry Forest School, an all-boys prep school in Woodberry Forest, Va.

However, I do have to say that Foxcroft was one of the most beautiful graduation ceremonies I have ever been to.

True to Southern, prep-school norms, the graduation was riddled with traditions and inside jokes. However, my favorite part (and this should come as no surprise) is what all those gorgeous girls wore! Each senior had on a floor-length, white gown and each underclass-woman wore her school-skirt and a white polo shirt.

Now, I do have to admit that the seniors did remind me of a bunch of child brides… BUT, I thought the white was a great touch, especially for high school girls.

I could go on and on about the imagery it evoked (purity, steadfastness, soundness of mind and body) but that would be boring.

Anyhow, Congrats to Foxcroft’s Class of 2009… you all looked FIERCE!
