So you may remember how I wanted to insert more color into my wardrobe in 2012. I bought this dress from H&M that is perfect for work or to go out. I am really excited for Spring when I can wear it without the jacket. The dress has such a great shape! I will be sure to blog it, in full, once the weather gets warmer and I can really show it off. Until then, here’s a little preview of my new green dress.

The trouble with winter

So here’s the thing, y’all. People are always talking about the negative body images perpetuated by fashion editorials. The weight of the models, the airbrushing, the perfect hair and makeup — you know, that stuff. In my opinion, ad agencies can re-touch all they want. It’s the stylists that should start putting models in appropriate clothing for their winter editorials. These winter ads I see around are really starting to make me look bad! I can’t keep up with the glam!

Take the stunning lady above. She appears to be leading her pet horse through Siberia in high heeled lace up boots, tall socks and a furry, mini skirt coat suit. She left her gloves at home and compensated with a giant, lovely hat and full-on diva hair and makeup. All good and well but honestly, I never look look like this when I am ~~in Siberia~~ enduring an NYC winter. I look like I am wrapped in a giant, black down comforter! Check my snow suit…

*Sigh* — not nearly as glamourous but warm just the same.

Terrific Tuesday

So, after carefully analysing my very scientific poll in the post below, it was determined that

you all LOVE fingerless gloves!

An overwhelming majority voted in favor of fingerless gloves’ practicality. Thanks for all your votes! I love to get feedback from fellow fashionistas. I will definitely have to give fingerless gloves a try. I am LOVING these beauties from Anthropologie.

She is kind of my fashion hero.

I am pretty sure you all are tired of hearing 7 random things about me, so I decided to change it up and make these totally about fashion:

♥ I only own two pairs of jeans.

♥ I throw all sense of style out the window when it is cold out. I wear crazy amounts of layers, coats, hats, scarves and then peel them all off to reveal my actual outfit when I get to my destination.

♥ I firmly believe that sweatpants of any kind should be banned outside of the home.

♥ No one should underestimate the power a good moisturizer can have on your face.

♥ I don’t believe in overspending on clothing. If you can afford to spend $400 on jeans, give that extra cash to a charity or something… then go to Forever 21.

♥ I am obsessed with watching fashion shows online… but I will admit they are kind of similar watching the House of Representatives on CNN… (i.e. an acquired taste)

♥ I am loving the epic comeback of the scarf. Everyone is wearing them, everyday and with everything. They really look chic.

Love or Fug? Fingerless Gloves

The verdict is still out on my opinion of fingerless gloves. Are they practical? Do they make you look homeless? Are they the ultimate fashion statement of this generation? I don’t know! But I want to know what you think!

Ugg-ly cold weather fashions we just can’t quit

The weather has turned cold, the leaves are falling, the temperatures are brisk… it is time. Time for those non-water repellant, non-slip resistant, partially wind-proof, and therefore completely impractical wool-lined boots to make their debut.

Despite their totally unchic, unbecoming, and downright u-g-l-y appearance, Ugg boots continue to make an appearance winter after winter.

The uniform is simple: tan uggs; black leggings; oversized tee; long, black feather-down coat if you are from the North and a North Face Denali jacket if you are from the South.

Perhaps women think Uggs are practical, perhaps they find comfort in looking like everyone else, perhaps they are drawn to Uggs because they look kinda cute over leggings and skinny jeans (my favorite way to wear them).

Whatever it is, Uggs aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. We ladies just can’t quit them.
